Lisson Presents 6 focuses on the artist Ryan Gander's work, which will be presented alongside artworks of other Lisson Gallery artists and beyond, as part of a web of formal and conceptual references, associations and connections.

Ryan Gander will present a number of new and recent works, including two new pieces part of the renowned ongoing series of Alchemy Boxes, which adopt the most diverse containers as vessels filled with objects from the artist's own collection. The exhibition will also include works based on portraiture, such as the photograph A portrait of Mark Leckey, 2009. The theme of portraiture is central to the project that Ryan Gander will undertake in October as part of Frieze Projects 2009: We Are Constant, 2009. For the entire duration of the fair, Gander will set up a photographic printing studio to make portraits of visitors to the fair looking at an artwork of their choice. While visitors will be sent their own portraits, a copy will be hung as part of an installation along the entrance corridor to the fair, creating a growing portrait of the fair through its population.

Ryan Gander lives and works in London. In January 2008 Gander's solo show, 'Heralded as the new black', curated by Nigel Prince, premiered at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham. The exhibition traveled to the South London Gallery, London, 2008, and to the Boijmans Museum, Rotterdam, 2009. 'The Die is Cast', Gander's most extensive solo exhibition to date, is on view at Villa Arson, Centre National d'Art Contemporain, Nice, until 18 October 2009 He has recently been awarded the prestigious Zurich Art Prize. In 2010, as part of the prize, Gander's work will be presented at the Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich. The exhibition will be accompanied by a new extensive monographic publication.

Ryan Gander's first solo exhibition at Lisson Gallery will open in May 2010.

Lisson Presents is a series of exhibitions devised for the 2009 programme at 29 Bell Street. Exhibitions include a focused presentation of an artist not currently represented by the gallery, work of new emerging artists and a selection of works by other Lisson artists. Since its foundation, Lisson Gallery's reputation has had two defining characteristics: its support for art with a conceptual foundation, and its championing of successive generations of British and international artists. Lisson Presents has been exploring different aspects of this dual ethos, constrained neither by fashion or history instead drawing on the dynamic interplay between tradition and invention.
