Collected Readings Works from the British Council Collection Gallery 1 Bad Faith Common Culture Gallery 2 19th March - 8 May 2010 We would be delighted if you would join us between 6pm and 8pm on Friday 19th March to celebrate the launch of two new exceptional contemporary visual art exhibitions, Bad Faith and Collected Readings at the Golden Thread Gallery. Collected Readings is an exhibition of works selected from the British Council Collection that sets out to explore aspects of word in display. The exhibition consists of works featuring text as an integral element of the image by eleven celebrated artists: Fiona Banner, Ian Breakwell, Victor Burgin, Jimmie Durham, Tracey Emin, Hamish Fulton, Richard Hamilton, Matthew Higgs, Richard Long, Donald Urquhart; spanning five decades. The exhibition, realised in collaboration with the British Council Northern Ireland, will be supported by a contextual program that includes a Key Note lecture by Victor Burgin on Wednesday 24th March at 12.00 noon and Dr. Christa-Mia Lerm Hayes�s lecture Collective Reading - Relationships Between Contemporary Artists' Works and Literature on Tuesday 27th April at 12.30pm. Bad Faith is an exhibition by the collaborative artist�s group Common Culture. The Bad Faith exhibition will feature the first showing of Common Culture�s new work I Dreamt I Was A Monkey � And They Made Me Wear Shoes, a multi�channel video installation featuring �ex�TV �soap� actors performing scenes of discrete social interaction� set against a backdrop of high street consumption. Common Culture, founded in 1996, has exhibited to much critical acclaim internationally and is well known for works that �take the stuff of real popular culture (not fashionably sanitised pop) and represent it as exercises in intellectual and aesthetic provocation and dislocation.� Robert Clarke, the Guardian. 25.11.06 We hope that you will be able to join with us to celebrate the launch of both of these truly remarkable exhibitions at Northern Ireland�s leading international contemporary art gallery. Project Space: Scope 1 - 18 April, 2010 Opening on Thursday 1st April from 6-9pm, as a feature of Belfast's Late Night and running until the 18th April 2010 Scope in the Project Space provides and opportunity for a local audience to experience examples of the work exhibited at the Scope Art Fair, New York in March by Lisa Byrne, Victoria J Dean, Allan Hughes and Keith Winter. ABOUT THE GALLERY The Golden Thread Gallery is Northern Ireland�s leading international contemporary art space, rooted in the local. The gallery offers residents and visitors to Belfast a diverse programme of high quality contemporary art exhibitions and participatory events. As one of Northern Irelands largest visual arts venues the Golden Thread Gallery acts as a platform for a mix of the very best international and local artists, hosting six large-scale exhibitions in the main gallery spaces and twelve exhibitions in its project space. The project space openings are not to be missed and always take place at 6.00pm on the first Thursday of the month as part of Belfast�s Late Night Art. Outreach is at the core of the gallery�s activities, working off-site and in partnership with a wide range of communities and groups, devising challenging and innovative projects in addition to providing a range of contextual activities such as artists� talks, gallery tours and workshops. The gallery also publishes exhibition catalogues and books exploring further contemporary practices. Over the last ten years the Golden Thread Gallery has established an excellent reputation for creating exhibitions exploring art from the North Ireland, delivering exhibitions to international audiences through its touring programme. The gallery has delivered numerous curated exhibitions to venues across the UK and Ireland, Europe, North America, China and more recently Taiwan. In recent years the Golden Thread Gallery has been working with a number of artists living and working in Northern Ireland to create a �not-for-profit� form of artists� representation and has championed their work at national and international art fairs, such as the London Art Fair, Berliner Liste and Scope New York as well as establishing a dedicated in-house sales room.
