DIGITAL TRANSPOSITIONS 2 Jure Fingut Prebil, Vana Gacina, Petra Gorenc, Matija Jaarov, Tit Neovic, Nik Skuek, Martin Zelenko, Katja erko, Sebastian etko 19. 5. 2011 1. 6. 2011 You are most kindly invited to the opening on Thursday, 19th May, at 19.00 at kuc Gallery. kuc Gallery has been collaborating with institutions working in the contemporary visual arts for a long time, thereby seeking not only to overcome the necessarily subjective approach of a single curator, but also to avoid showing a preference for artists who have already entered the canon of (contemporary) art. In this respect, the second year of collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts and Design on the Digital Transpositions project means both insisting on the diversity of the exhibition programme and researching the production of new generations of artists. The second exhibition in the Digital Transpositions project by students at the Department of Video and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in collaboration with computer programming students of the Faculty of Computer and Information Science working in the Digital Vision Laboratory focuses on technological-performative installations in real and digital environments. These installations are media hybrids, and point to the specifics of media codes, materials and technologies, conceptual practices and the networking of production conditions and disciplines, thus counter-balancing the constructed field of social perception. Digital Transpositions 2 includes three sections. The first presents new-media objects as operators of reality which enable the user to complement and upgrade our reality via computer interfaces. With his project The Life of a Pig Jure Fingut exposes the consequences of human habits and needs by moving the viewer through a virtual field. Choice, Choice, Choice is a project by Tit Neovic, who tackles the issue of consumerism with similar means, while the work of Nik Skuek entitled The Colour Echo is a more intimate reflection on the transformational aspects of technology, which in this case changes the human voice into colour. With the Fusic project, Matija Jaarov examines the issue of originality in music and explores the elusive boundary between the hybrid and original by engaging the viewer in the process of creation. Similar questions are posed by Sebastian etko in the project entitled Visual Mixer, where a web camera takes on the function of a mixing desk, while Vana Gaina confronts the viewers with themselves by prompting them to enter into a dialogue with technology. The second section introduces two-dimensional panoramas - 360-degree images of public space - which become keys to opening their inner dynamics in different ways. With her project YesVno panoramaTest Petra Gorenc examines the spatial bestowal of an artefact/event on a work of art via dichotomous presentations of panoramas of public and private space. Viewers can wander around the coded gazes in their own way. The last section includes three-dimensional interactive installations exploring the three-dimensional perception of urban landscapes, establishing a relational project of entering the protocols of public speech. Through interactive panoramas, Martin Zelenko and Katja erko tackle social issues initiated by the physical aspect of the public sphere. Zelenkos project Interactive 3D Super - Fruit Market researches the connection between food, fascination with 3D technology and location, while in her work Penultimate Stop erko offers a way into the inner world of coincidental users of public space. Digital Transpositions 2 is a resolute attempt to promote art which seeks to and deserves an open space for presentation with a continuous critical approach, and which does not understand artistic discourse in new media merely as consumption and fascination with technology, but above all as an opportunity to expand everyday experience and reflect on the reality of human perception. Mentor: Sreco Dragan The programme of kuc Gallery is supported by Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and Cultural Department of the City of Ljubljana. |
