THOMAS ZIPP AIDS TO THEATER TECHNIQUE 11. September bis 23. Oktober 2010 Er�ffnung: Freitag, 10. September 2010, 18�21 Uhr Thomas Zipp z�hlt zu den bedeutendsten deutschen K�nstlern der Gegenwart. Geboren 1966 im hessischen Heppenheim, wurde er als Maler an der St�delschule Frankfurt und der Slade School of Fine Art in London ausgebildet. Mit Vorliebe f�gt er seine Werke, bestehend aus Gem�lden, Grafiken, Skulpturen und installativen Arbeiten zu einem Gesamtkonzept zusammen. Seit der 4. Berlin Biennale beeindrucken seine Rauminstallationen immer wieder aufs Neue. Auf der Suche nach Norm und Abweichung verwandelte er zuletzt das riesige Areal der Kunsthalle Fridericianum in Kassel in eine �psychiatirsche Anstalt�. Die vom Tageslicht abgeschirmten, g�nzlich verwandelten Ausstellungsr�ume werden zu Visionsr�umen, in welchen brisante Auseinandersetzungen wissenschaftlicher, politischer, religi�ser und esoterischer Art stattfinden. Seine Installationen sind inhaltlich aufgeladene Raummodelle, in denen historische Ereignisse Bezug auf die Gegenwart nehmen. Wissenschaftler oder beispielsweise der theologische Urheber der Reformation Martin Luther treten mit ihren Ansichten, Hypothesen und wissenschaftlichen Errungenschaften in einer globalisierten Welt in Erscheinung. Sie beziehen erneut Stellung und werden im Werk von Thomas Zipp kritisch hinterfragt. Als �Psychonauten�, die mit ihrem Wirken das bestehende System grundlegend ver�ndert haben, geistern sie durch seinen Weltverschw�rungsgeist. Dabei wird den Leinw�nden durch Stelzen Mobilit�t verliehen, so als k�nne man sie wie Banner zu einem Protestmarsch erheben. Gro�formatige Gem�lde finden ihre Erg�nzung in kleinen gerahmten Collagen, in denen sich oft d�ster und humorvoll zugleich der eigentliche Kern verbirgt: Der Mensch mit all seiner Endlichkeit steht im Mittelpunkt der Zipp�schen �berlegungen. 2007 verwandelte der K�nstler die Galerie Sch�ttle in einen �Aufregenden Zeremonienraum� und l�sst mit Spannung auf die kommende Ausstellung zur Open Art 2010 blicken. �ffnungszeiten zur OPEN ART: Freitag, 10.9.2010, 18�21 Uhr / Samstag und Sonntag, 11.9.2010 und 12.9.2010, 11�18 Uhr english version THOMAS ZIPP AIDS TO THEATER TECHNIQUE 11th September until 23rd October 2010 Opening: Friday, 10th October 2010, 6.00�9.00 p.m. Thomas Zipp counts among the most significant German artists of the present day. Born in the Hessian town of Heppenheim in 1966 and a graduate in painting from the St�delschule in Frankfurt and the Slade School of Fine Art in London, Thomas Zipp has a preference for overall concepts that embrace all the different genres of his oeuvre: paintings, graphics, sculptures and installations. Ever since the 4th Berlin Biennale, Zipp�s art installations have never failed to impress their audiences. Always operating within opposite, conflicting poles � norm and deviation, social acceptance and exclusion � Thomas Zipp this year transformed the vast interior of the Kunsthalle Fridericianum in Kassel into a �psychiatric asylum�. Changed beyond recognition and their windows shaded against the sunlight, the exhibition rooms become �rooms of vision�, scenes of explosive conflict of every conceivable kind, from scientific to religious, from political to esoteric. His installations are charged with meaning and content, featuring historical events that hold startling relevance for the present. Great scientists of the past or such religious reformers as Martin Luther now present their views, hypotheses and scientific achievements anew, take new stands and come under critical scrutiny within the context of a now globalized world. As �psychonauts� that have fundamentally changed the existing system, they now haunt its mood of world conspiracy. The stretchers of his canvases sometimes extend into stilt-like legs, lending them the mobility of banners carried in a protest march. Large-format paintings are paired with small framed collages in which the actual core � at once grim and humorous � of Zipp�s concept lies: the human being in all his or her finitude. In 2007, Thomas Zipp transformed the R�diger Sch�ttle Gallery into an �exciting ritual room�. So let us now look forward eagerly and curiously to what awaits us in the forthcoming exhibition for Open Art 2010!
