Mythologie und ihre Hinterfragung sind das zentrale Thema im Oeuvre des serbischen K�nstlers Djordje Ozbolt (*1967). Mit technischer Finesse und satirischem Witz widmet er sich dem klassischen Thema. Als Inspirationsquelle dienen Ozbolt die unterschiedlichsten Medien; Bilder, Geschichten und Erlebnisse werden mit verschiedenen Techniken und Stilen zu schwarzhumorigen und surrealistisch anmutenden Bilderwelten vereint. So etwa entstand das Gem�lde �Koksen� (2010) in Anlehnung an das Selbstportrait �Mousquetaire � la pipe� (1968), in dem sich Picasso die Rolle des Musketiers, des verwegenen Gentlemans zuschreibt, der das Leben und die Liebe in vollen Z�gen genie�t. �Koksen� deutet das Gesicht eines Mannes mit Schnurbart, Hut und Zigarette an, das durchsichtig, zusammengehalten durch Linien, Farbflecken und Kreise nur schwach Profil erkennen l�sst. Mit dieser kritischen aber auch humorvollen Hommage gelingt es Ozbolt nicht nur die Mythologisierung des K�nstlers an sich sondern auch den Umgang der Malerei mit ihrer Geschichte neu zu reflektieren. Djordje Ozbolt, geboren 1967 in Belgrad, studierte von 1988 bis 1991 an der Universit�t Belgrad Architektur und lebt seit Mitte der 90er Jahre in London wo er an der Slade School of Fine Art und der Royal Academy Malerei studierte. Im Showroom der Galerie R�diger Sch�ttle sind neue Arbeiten der amerikanischen K�nstlerin Patty Chang (*1972) zu sehen. Bekannt durch ihre Performances, Video-Arbeiten und Filme, in denen sie sich mit Themen wie Identit�t, Gender, Sexualit�t und Sprache auseinandersetzt, richtet Patty Chang das Augenmerk dieser Ausstellung auf die Hinterfragung der physischen, mentalen und seelischen Gegebenheiten von Arbeit und Produktion. Entstanden sind eine neue Videoinstallation, Fotografien und Graphiken. F�r Ihre Videoinstallation filmte sie verschiedene Menschen beim Ruhen und Schlafen an ihren Arbeitspl�tzen und pr�ft dabei, inwieweit die Menschen von den R�umen beeinflusst werden, in denen sie arbeiten, und, umgekehrt, inwieweit die Raumwahrnehmung von den sich darin befindenden Menschen gepr�gt wird. Ferner zeigt die K�nstlerin dazu entstandene Fotografien, Aufnahmen der Schlafenden, sowie Grafiken*, die sich aus in Papier gepr�gten S�tzen und dicker in sich flie�ender Farbe zusammensetzen. Die entstandenen Worte gehen aus einer Kollaboration zwischen Patty Chang und dem Poeten Thomas Devaney hervor. �ber einen Zeitraum von zwei Wochen schrieben sie sich kurz nach dem Aufwachen Erinnerungen an ihre Tr�ume. *Mit freundlicher Unterst�tzung von Marina Ancona; 10 Grand Press. Ihr Film �Shangri-La� wurde 2005 als Teil der �Three M Project� im Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, dem New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York und dem Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago gezeigt. 2008 w�rdigte sie das Bowdoin College Museum of Arts, Brunswick, USA mit einer Einzelpr�sentation. Myths and the doubts behind them are the central theme of the paintings of the Serbian artist Djordje Ozbolt (*1967). He devotes himself to this classical theme with a perfect blend of subtle form and satirical content. He draws his inspiration from a whole diversity of media: images, stories and experiences merge in a fusion of techniques and styles to become surreal worlds full of the blackest humour. A typical example is the painting �Koksen� (2010), which cites the self-portrait �Mousquetaire � la pipe� (1968), in which Picasso depicts himself in the role of the dashing musketeer enjoying life and love to the full. Ozbolt�s painting vaguely hints at a man�s moustached face wearing a hat and smoking a cigarette, the transparent composition being held together by lines, patches of colour and circles and hardly showing any profile. With this critical yet humorous homage Ozbolt calls in question not only the mythologization of the artist but also the way painting deals with its own history. Djordje Ozbolt, born in Belgrade in 1967, studied architecture at the University of Belgrade from 1988 to 1991 and has been living in London since the mid-1990s, where he studied painting at the Slade School of Fine Art and the Royal Academy. His paintings were shown in a group exhibition at the R�diger Sch�ttle Gallery in 2006, the year in which he also took part in the �Tate Triennial� at Tate Britain. Further group exhibitions included the �Prague Biennial�, Prague, Czech Republic (2007) and �The Library Of Babel / In And Out Of Place�, 176 Zabludowicz Collection, London (2010). On display in the Showroom of the R�diger Sch�ttle Gallery are the latest works of the American artist Patty Chang (*1972). Known for her performances, video pieces and films, in which she deals with such themes as identity, gender, sexuality and language, Patty Chang devotes this exhibition to the querying of the given physical, mental and emotional aspects of work and production. The exhibits include a new video installation, photographs and graphics. For her video installation, Patty Chang filmed people resting and sleeping at their workplaces, her intention being to explore not only the extent to which people are conditioned by the environment in which they work but also the reverse, that is to say, how our perception of the working environment is influenced by the people within it. The installation is accompanied by photographs of workers asleep. The exhibited graphics* are composed from words and phrases embossed in paper and thick applications of intermingling colour. The words evolved from a collaboration between Patty Chang and the poet Thomas Devaney. For a period of two weeks they wrote each other their recollections of their dreams shortly after waking up in the morning. * With the kind support of Marina Ancone, 10 Grand Press.
