For her first one-person show at Galera Helga de Alvear, Ana Prada is exhibiting new work exploring everyday and industrially produced objects, appearances and reality.

A heightened sense of lyricism is brought to these works as is a sense of irony. At first sight they bring to mind forms of geometric abstraction before unveiling their true identity upon closer inspection.

Combs, curlers and teabags are taken out of their normal everyday context and are used by the artist exclusively on the basis of their material or aesthetic qualities; these pure forms and colours construct visual dialogues in Pradas sculptural and photographic work. Not until after the initial inspection will the viewer discovers the elements of this alchemists compositions, in turn forcing them to look at their surroundings in a new light. After engaging with one of Ana Pradas sculptures, nobody will ever be able to look at an innocent thumbtack or drawing pin in the same way again.

The most common of materials are delicately and poetically transmuted in her work and prompt the viewer to investigate further and in doing so perhaps reflect simply due to curiosity, intrigue or bemusement. This path stretches from the intimate to the public in a process involving observation, experience and humour.

Ana Prada (Zamora, 1965) lives and works in London and has taken part in group shows at MUSAC in Len, at the Fundacin Juan March in Palma de Mallorca and the Esteban Vicente Museum in Segovia and has had a solo exhibition at the New Museum in New York.
