26/10/2008 - 31/05/2009 "Sphres": 5 energies in a new kind of exhibitions experience - Galleria Continua - Chantal Crousel - Hauser & Wirth - Galerie Krinzinger - Kamel Mennour Atelier van Lieshout, Tony Cragg, Martin Creed, Leandro Erlich, Yona Friedman, Subodh Gupta, Fabrice Gygi, Thomas Hirschhorn, Claude Lvque, Jean-Luc Moulne, Luca Pancrazzi, Werner Reiterer, Zineb Sedira, Shen Yuan, Djamel Tatah, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Mark Wallinger Long-term projects: Daniel Buren, Loris Cecchini, Chen Zhen, Kendell Geers, Mona Hatoum, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Nedko Solakov Stemming from the wish to develop a shared and unifying exhibition concept, the Spheres project involves the participation of several contemporary art galleries of international dimensions, who have joined forces at Le Moulin, an old industrial factory complex situated near a river in the Paris region. The galleries, prompted by the desire to pool their energies in a new kind of exhibition experience, each present artists whose works will be installed in and will relate to various parts of the complex. In doing so they will engage with the rich history of the site. Showing that it is possible to free oneself from presuppositions regarding the so-called competition between contemporary art galleries, the project is the manifesto of a dynamic stance within the professional domain of art and its market. The initiative seeks to demonstrate that the fact that galleries operate in the same sphere should no longer be regarded as an obstacle to working together. Instead, it offers exciting potential to collaborate on ambitious and previously unattempted projects, making the most of the diversity of opinions and the wealth of subjectivities. The works on show at Le Moulin will echo and offer concrete proof that it is possible for galleries to support each other and to work together in developing shared projects, encouraging and facilitating artists to open up new domains for reflection in contemporary art. Spheres is a confluence of energies, acting as a force for creating multiple critical perspectives. The exhibition will be held outside the customary framework of artistic events, in a very unusual setting. Inaugurated in October 2007, the impressive site of Galleria Continua / Le Moulin has become an art centre, hosting in the countryside the projects of artists from around the world. As such it is a point of meeting, the ground for all kinds of possibility, where artists can relate to their peers and to others. Galleria Continua is embarking on a new adventure, opening on October 2007 a singular new venue for contemporary art at Boissy-le-Chtel in the Paris area. Under the sign of the free circulation of artists, works of art, contemporary art actors, ideas and fertile exchanges between various cultures, the project of the Moulin is a philanthropic vocation. Galleria Continua decided to establish a base in France in a place with a very marked character and connotations, choosing to maintain the name by which the complex is known in the area: Le Moulin de Boissy. This old cluster of industrial buildings lies on the 13th century foundations of a mill that once belonged to the local lord of Boissy-le-Chtel. The site was then abandoned for a number of years, but has now been restored to new life and is ready to commence its new artistic life. The Moulin opened on October 2007 with the exhibition Ouverture and works by Ai Weiwei, Daniel Buren, Loris Cecchini, Chen Zhen, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Carlos Garaicoa, Kendell Geers, Subodh Gupta, Mona Hatoum, Ilya Kabakov, Anish Kapoor, Jorge Macchi, Sabrina Mezzaqui, Hans Op de Beeck, Lucy + Jorge Orta, Luca Pancrazzi, Bruno Peinado, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Serse, Nedko Solakov, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Yan Lei, Zheng Guogu et Zhuang Hui. Some of the works have been produced specifically for the Moulin. From June to October 2008, Le Moulin has shown three new exhibitions : Michelangelo Pistoletto Binahayat ; Lucy + Jorge Orta, Antarctica et Resilience avec Chen Zhen, Meschac Gaba, Kendell Geers, Gu Dexin, Mona Hatoum, Kan Xuan, Liu Jianhua, Moataz Nasr, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Marcella Vanzo, Sophie Whettnall, Zheng Guogu. Several times a year the Moulin will be the site for ambitious projects and the exhibition of large-scale works. Some permanent works have been produced specially for the Moulin. The exhibition will be open from October 26th 2008 until May 31st 2009 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12 midday to 6 pm, closed on the weekend 26-28/12/2008 and 2-4/01/2008.
