5 mai - 17 juin 2010
May 5 - June 17, 2010

Vernissage le mercredi 5 mai de 18h 21h
Opening on Wednesday, May 5 from 6pm to 9pm

For this new exhibition, Rirkrit Tirvanija has constructed a pavilion architecture to house and present an anthology of political T-shirts.
Tiravanija uses political T-shirts as vehicles of popular cultural awareness and interaction, in order to take a closer look at explicit messages of all walks of life varying in intensity and degree.

For his fourth solo exhibition at the gallery, Tiravanija once again explored the work of Le Corbusier (in 1998, the artist had adopted the structure of the Domino architecture).

Here, he examines the Floating Asylum (lAsile Flottant) a barge designed by Le Corbusier in 1929 for the Salvation Army. The barge was fully reconstructed in Thailand, in wood and in large scale, but only one part will fit within the gallery walls.

Visitors will be able to enter the interior of the Pavilion and experience the rehabilitation project designed by Le Corbusier.

New Demonstration Drawings (a set of drawings by student-artists commissioned by Tiravanija, made from photographs of demonstrations published in the press) will be presented as well.
They will also be reproduced on wallpaper and presented on a large wall of the gallery around the Pavilion.

The Pavilion will be divided into several sections allowing it to be exposed in the future in different configurations, either individually or in parts.
