Sun Jin Choi The Creator December 12thJanuary 18th Reception: Friday December 12th, 7-9pm Viewing hours: Fri-Sun 1-6 and by appointment Front Room Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Sung Jin Choi. Chois practice investigates the nature of memory through sound and kinetic objects. Sung Jin Choi grew up in Seoul, studying fine art in Seoul and New York City. His work fuses the cultural differences between the two countries intending to leave the viewer with awareness and sensitivity for both. During residencies at Sculpture Space in Utica, New York and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Choi capitalized on the abundance of physical space to enact his ideas of movement, memory, and sound. In The creator, Choi devises a physical space for enacting thoughts on his complex relationship with his father. These images and ideas coalesce along side themes from Choi's contemporary life as an artist in New York. Choi animates everyday tools and kitchen utensils through motion sensors. When walking into the space, tools begin to move at varying rates, a frame made of industrial foam hovers around the drawing, and is light carefully placed on different sections of the sculpture, highlighting Chois wire-drawn interpretation of Michelangelos The creation of Adam The wire drawing gently vibrates with the humming of the tools and the viewer is able to view the complicated fabric of father son dynamics through the artists lens. Gallery 2: Small Works Featuring: Gregory Curry, Erik Guzman, Patricia Smith, Joanne Ungar, Daniel Weiner, Alexander Zolli, and more Front Room is also pleased to participate in the smART Brooklyn Gallery Hop, which will shine the light on Brooklyns thriving art scene.
