Michael Mller Werke / Works September 6th November 1st, 2008 Chung King project is delighted to present the first solo exhibition by German artist Michael Mller in the United States. Since his studies at the Kunstakademie Dsseldorf with Magdalena Jetelov and Gerhart Richter, Michael Mller (*1970) has been developing for the past 15 years a body of work, predominantly in drawing, that is persistently and obsessively situated between the poles of highest possible precision and systematization, on the one hand, and his total belief in individual positing that cannot be called into question, on the other. In his drawing projects - the cartographic drawings, the cloud pictures, the "portraits" - Michael Mller is not interested in a realistic imitation of an outside world posited as a norm, but instead in the attempt to lend drawing new qualities that lie beyond its medium-related attributions - as a technique to attain knowledge, and understanding of humanity and its surroundings. Michael Mller past exhibitions include solos at Arndt & Partners, Berlin; COMA, Berlin and galerie Ursula Wahlbroeh, Dusseldorf. He will be in upcoming group shows at Suzanne Vielmetter, Berlin and Max Heztler, Berlin. For his solo debut in the country, Mller will present an arrangement of drawings, paintings, and sculptures covering his artistic practice of this past decade. He will also present a video piece where the artist goes through different stages of hypnosis, while trying to reproduce the exact same drawing under different level of consciousness. |
