Anne-Laure Sacriste: �Paradis Artificiels� March 22nd-April 19th 2008 Opening Reception: Saturday March 22nd from 6-9pm Preview Friday March 21st from 6-8 pm Chung King Project is pleased to host French painter Anne-Laure Sacriste for her solo debut in the United States. In Sacriste�s new landscape paintings, figures appear to have dissolved in the support, as if they were accidental productions of the medium; foregrounds and backgrounds move forward and recede depending on the position of the viewer and the light. Her work owes as much to the Romantic landscape painters as they do to cult film directors such as Jim Jarmush (Deadman) and Antonioni (Blow-up). The paintings are composed as a movie director would think of framing his shots keeping in mind an idea of movement, and off-screen suggestions. This process results in mysterious paintings with cinematographic qualities, which encourage the viewer to move around the work in order to appreciate the multi-layered depth and subtlety of these fantastical landscapes. Anne-Laure Sacriste graduated from the Beaux Arts in Paris, where she studied under Henry Cueco. She had a solo exhibition at Art-Concept, Paris in 2006. She is currently part of a group exhibition at the Musee d�Art Contemporain of Noisy-Le-Sec titled Night Visions.
