Kristine Potter - The Gray Line Exhibition Dates: November 4 - December 23 Daniel Cooney Fine Art is proud to announce the New York debut solo exhibition of photographs by Kristine Potter. The large scale black and white portraits were made at West Point over the past four years. The photographs challenge traditional documentary images, live feed coverage of wars and traditional military portraiture. The artist was raised in a staunch military family with a long history of military service. West Point served as a training ground for many members of her immediate family and decedents. In addition, West Point has trained more high-ranking officers and politicians than any other U.S. military academy. The images explore both a personal history and knowledge of the military. They also question the ideas of violence and power that the military thrives on. The cadets are photographed in environments that are not heroic and sometimes very beautiful. They seem to be vulnerable and innocent young men as opposed to trained warriors. Kristine Potter was born in Dallas and received a BFA from the University of Georgia and an MFA from Yale in 2005. She has exhibited her work at the Romo Gallery, Atlanta, The Gigantic Art Space, NYC and Rocket Projects, Miami. She is a Professor of Photography at the State University of New York, Purchase.
