Drawings Justin Francavilla, Rubens Ghenov and Michael Whittle Exhibition Dates: 4/30/09 5/30/09 Artists Reception: Saturday, 4/2: 3 5pm Daniel Cooney Fine Art is very proud to announce a three-person exhibition of drawings by Justin Francavilla, Rubens Ghenov and Michael Whittle. Francavilla continues the success of his 2008 debut solo exhibition with two new large-scale drawings using images sourced from newspapers and news magazines. This time the ink and wash drawings depict scenarios from immigrant crossings and fugitive captures along with surreal additions such as flocks of menacing exotic birds. Ghenov will be making his New York debut with a group of drawings that explore his immigrant status in the United States. Originally from Brazil, Ghenov has created three main characters that frequent the drawings: the Professor who is a silhouetted figure that plays the drums, the Monk, a shrouded mysterious figure and the Dream whose ethereal appearance embodies the landscape. Whittle who currently resides in Kyoto, Japan continues his exploration of Zen Buddhism, biology and physics with a fine ink line and stunning attention to detail. Included in his contribution to the exhibition are renderings of five pointed stars made of the Ulna bone from a Japanese Crane and human inner ears.
