Justin Francavilla I Said You FCKN Die! We are proud to announce the debut exhibition of Brooklyn based artist Justin Francavilla titled I Said You FCKN Die! The exhibition consists of multiple drawings ranging in scale from 22 x 30 to 55 x 120. The drawings, made of ink and spray paint are based on photographs found in the sports pages. The drawings are physical, emotional and seductive in their imagery, highly textured surfaces and size. Aggression runs rampant through the series of drawings weather you are looking at the subjects larger than life physical gestures or the splatters of ink flying from the artists pen. Though sports photographs inspire the drawings, the artist chooses to dress his players in business attire. The hostility revealed in the artwork conjures up the testosterone driven worlds of Wall Street and current political campaigns while also commenting on race relations. Or, they might possibly be addressing ones personal struggle to survive and succeed in a rough and tumble world. Since graduating from Cooper Union in 2001 Francavilla has worked on this series of drawings perfecting his technique and focusing the content. The work is based on deeply emotional and personal experiences from the artists adolescence. He successfully disguises his own experiences in the hostility and anger of his drawings so they become individual experiences for each viewer. |
