Making Waves June 27 - August 2, 2013 Daniel Cooney Fine Art is extremely proud to announce our summer 2013 exhibition of photographs titled Making Waves. The exhibition consists of a carefully curated group of photographs by 15 different artists based on the spirited and eclectic themes of summertime. Swimming pools, beaches, bikinis, Speedos, skinny-dipping, sunburns, tan lines, cruising, elegance and distant childhood memories all make up this fun and sexy show. The exhibition features classical images such as Iles des Cynges, 1928, a vintage photograph of an airborne diver by Andre Kertesz and Nathan Lerner's The Swimmer, 1935 of a nude male swimmer abstracted by the water's surface. From below the water is Wayne Levin's image of swimmers competing in the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon, 2001. Completing the athletic contributions to the exhibition are Anderson & Low's portraits of competitive aquatic sportsmen. In saturated and sparkly color are Brea Souders and Aaron Cobbett's staged compositions of a sunburned young woman and a 70's porn star-esque man posed in a revealing, slightly transparent Speedo in front of a fringed foil curtain. Aline Smithson and Brandon Herman both make use of the California light in their photos of sunbathers and swimmers. Herman's image recalls Lerner's Swimmer with a nod to Hockney added. Artists included are: Harry Callahan, Aaron Cobbett, Deborah Hamon, Brandon Herman, Andre Kertesz, Nathan Lerner, Wayne Levin, Anderson &b Low, Joseph Maida, Will McBride, Slava Mogutin, Aline Smithson, Brea Souders, Joseph Szabo, Edmund Teske and Frank Yamrus.
