Dee Ferris "Dressing Up for the Comedown" 28th October - 22nd December 2009 Opening: Wednesday 28th October 6.30 pm - 8.30 pm Tommaso Corvi-Mora is pleased to present new paintings by Dee Ferris's in her third solo exhibition at the gallery. One of the main features of Dee Ferris's work over the years has been her interest in the traditional genres of painting. Over time the subject matter in her work has moved away from familiar terrain, the landscape and conversation pieces that characterised her early work, to concentrate on interiors and still life. This shift has been accompanied by a move away from figurative painting to explore the territory between abstraction and figuration. The paintings start off as a figurative image, that is then blurred and abstracted through a process of substraction, by removing or covering up visual information. The final result is like walking in a landscape with thick fog: we sense the presence of objects and some details are more apparent than others, but the overall sense is that of loneliness and alienation. Dee Ferris was born in 1973 and completed an MA course in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2002. Her work has been recently exhibited in "Art Now: Strange Solution" at Tate Britain, London and "Op�ra Rock" at the Mus�e d'Art Contemporain de Bordeaux. It has been included in group shows in many international galleries, among them Andrea Rosen Gallery (New York), Taro Nasu Gallery and Taka Ishii Gallery (Tokyo).
