The exhibition will include new work produced by reconfiguring earlier works into items of furniture with an "African" theme. The starting point of the exhibition was the recent rediscovery of "The African Chair" by Marcel Breuer and Gunta Stoelz, supposedly used by the head of the Bauhaus and subsequently lost for eighty years. Drawing on a diverse range of materials, methods and references, David Lieske examines the conditions of production, presentation and context. Lieske habitually exploits misunderstanding, coincidence and self-reference, allowing happenstance to lead him from one idea to the next, from one project to the next. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 6pm.
