ANDY COLLINS 7 May - 13 June, 2009 opening: 6.30 to 8.30 pm Thursday 7th May, 2009 Corvi-Mora is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by New York-based abstract painter Andy Collins. "(...) His compositions are relatively simple, with flat, overlapping shapes in washed-out shades of blue, green, yellow and cream bordered by buzzy lines of darker browns, reds, or greens. The works often look symmetrical but aren't, and they sustain associations variously geological, biological (and sexual), botanical and cartographic. (...) Mr Collins' s gleaming surfaces, infinitesimal shadings of color, unexpected spatial shifts and juxtapositions of ruled and irregular, sharp focus and soft, all anchor the viewer into the present, contemplating the physical and perceptual facts of the thin skin of painting that the artist has set before us. The act of looking, of experiencing one's eye and mind in active collaboration, has long been one of the subjects of abstract painting. Mr. Collins's work attests that it is far from exhausted." Roberta Smith This is Andy Collins' third exhibition at Corvi-Mora - his work will be included in "Abstract America: New Painting And Sculpture" to open at the Saatchi Gallery in June 2009.
