Jim Isermann 27th June - 31st July 2008 Opening: Friday, 27th June 2008, 6.30-8.30 pm Tommaso Corvi-Mora is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by US artist Jim Isermann. The exhibition includes four paintings and several works on paper, marking a return to the medium of painting after a hiatus of fifteen years. With this exhibition Jim Isermann continues his investigation - begun in the early Eighties - of the connections between art and design. His work has drawn inspiration from the masters of modern design like George Nelson, Verner Panton and Harry Bertoia as well as from vernacular, Middle-American versions of their work. "Far from any postmodern critique of the 'failed ideals' of the modernist past, his project espouses a renewed, historically concious idealism, one that champions the ornamentations of the past as symbols of cultural identity and of our insistent desire to embellish the world" (Michael Duncan). Jim Isermann has exhibited extensively, in Europe and in the US, since the beginning of the Eighties. A site-specific project is currently on view in Frome, Somerset, in the frame of the exhibition "Intervention/Decoration". The gallery will remain closed during the month of August. Next exhibition: Roger Hiorns, 4th September 18th October 2008. |
