NO more mirrors, ON more mirrors NO more mirrors, ON more mirrors, will open this Saturday between 7 and 10pm at our Berlin space. The exhibition is part of the festival Nico 70/20 celebrating the 70th birthday of Nico who died 20 years ago. Initialized by Bianca Schnig and Lutz Ulbrich the exhibition will show photographs by Willy Maywald, Herbert Tobias, Petra Gall and Lisa Law and works by Gregor Hildebrand and Bianca Schnig, as well as numerous personal documents, album covers and catalogues picturing the enigmatic life of the Warhol muse, actress and the singer Nico. Nico, born 1938 in Cologne, was already discovered by the Berlin based photographer Herbert Tobias when she was sixteen. A few years later she moved to Paris and met the fashion photographer Willy Maywald who shot many photographs of her for Vogue, Elle, Coco Chanel and other important fashion labels. 1961 she played a mysterious beauty in Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita. In New York she got to know Andy Warhol and his Factory and played a part in his film Chelsea Girls. As singer of the band The Velvet Underground in their debut album "The Velvet Underground and Nico" she got certainly most famous. The Babylon Kino Mitte, also participating in the Festival "Nico 20/70", will show films with and about Nico like The Velvet Underground & Nico, The Chelsea Girls, Ari & Mario and Strip-Tease. On October 16th, the date, on which Nico would have become 70 years old, her long time partner Lutz Ulbrich reads from his autobiography Ll ein Musikerleben at Gallery Christian Nagel. On October 17th the Volksbhne arranges on the initiative of Lutz Ulbrich a concert for Nico with Gudrun Gut & Michaela Melin, The Golden Hunger (feat. Jim aka James Young, keyboarder from Nicos last band The Faction, MacGillivray, Captain H Morgan), SOAP & SKIN, Marianne Enzensberger and others. |
