Assembly: Art in the Bar - Tim Freeman Fri 7 Aug Sun 6 Sept Gwe 7 Awst Sul 6 Medi Tim Freemans recent lens-based works reference the poetry and tragedy of Romantic painters such as William Blake, Caspar David Friedrich and Constable and in doing so explore some of the contemporary debates surrounding the depiction of landscape in both photography and painting. The stunning black and white works in our Caffi Bar incorporate digital collage and printmaking to describe the multi-layered landscape around us. They begin with the documentation of Freemans walks, through which he develops a sketchbook of images; open landscapes, shifting cloud patterns, tree formations, light on water. The images are built up and manipulated, layer upon layer to create a seamless landscape of contradictions: the urban and the rural; the fictitious and the real; the synthetic and the natural; the poetic gesture and the everyday. Born in Canada and raised in the Yorkshire Dales Tim moved to Cardiff in 1998 to study an MA in Fine Art at UWIC . He was named Welsh Artist of the Year 2009. |
