He creates installation environments through recycling materials to create objects for everyday use. He arrived in London from Larache in Morocco in his teens and was inspired by the emerging club culture, absorbing the music and styles of reggae, hip hop and world music. Hajjajs visual sensibilities led him to enter the world of art and fashion. In 1984, after running clubs and managing bands, he decided to launch RAP , his own clothing and accessories label. Hajjaj designs and produces furniture, clothing (from customised petrol attendant overalls and babouches to hats), photography, interior design and painting and printed canvas work (which can be seen in Assembly: Art in the Bar). www.hassanhajjaj.com |
