GLEN RUBSAMEN 'LA NUIT AM�RICAINE' 16.01. - 22.02.2009 ER�FFNUNG I OPENING: FR 16.01.09 I 19H 'Amerikanische Nacht' ist die Bezeichnung einer cinematographischen Technik, die Nachtszenen mittels Kamerafilter w�hrend eines Tagdrehs simuliert. In der aktuellen Ausstellung bei Cosar HMT zeigt Glen Rubsamen drei Videos und vier Bilder, die diese Simulation von �Tag f�r Nacht� als Metapher f�r eine zunehmende Austauschbarkeit von Landschaft, Jahreszeiten und selbst Gef�hle nimmt. In den Arbeiten untersucht Glen Rubsamen die ortschreitende Homogenisierung der Landschaft. B�ume, Pflanzen, und architektonische Elemente sind in ihrer Bedeutung und Begehrlichkeit nahezu globalisiert. Dubai heute folgt dem Model Hawais der 80er Jahre und dieses dem Modell Ibizas aus den 60er Jahren etc.. Rubsamen arbeitet kontinuierlich an der Entwicklung von Bildern, die wie sch�ne Versprechen einer nat�rlicheren und freiheitlicheren Welt anmuten, sich aber genau aus deren Gegenteil generieren. Die Videos und Bilder der Ausstellung sind Verschiebungen von Realit�ten, ein Ding wird durch ein anderes ersetzt, unbemerkt, weil uns die F�higkeit des Erkennens von Authentischem und Plagiat verloren gegangen ist. Als verbindendes Element von Rubsamen's Untersuchung dient dabei die �Palme� als Pionierpflanze der Globalisierung. 'American night' is the name of a cinematographic technique used to simulate a night scene by shooting it during the day and then adjusting the darkness of the image using filters on the camera lenses. In this exhibition Glen Rubsamen presents three videos and four paintings in which a similar �day for night� switch has been applied to the image. With these paintings and videos Rubsamen studies the increasing homogeneity of the landscape. Trees, plants, and architectural elements that are now global in their references to status and desire. Dubai of today modeled on Hawaii of the 80�s modeled on Ibiza of the 60�s, etc., etc.. Rubsamen�s works are about the continuing evolution of imagery that elicits in us a desire for freedom and escape, but which is manufactured from it�s opposite. The Videos and Paintings at Cosar HMT are a transposition, an act in which one thing is substituted for another, but which is not noticed because the capacity for recognizing the difference has been lost. The only unifying element in all these complex scenarios is the �Palm Tree� as the pioneer plant of globalization. |
