Gaming in Waziristan 19 July 2011 to 5 Aug 2011 Tuesday – Friday, 11am-5pm Documents from the North West Frontier Province, 2007-2011 A cache of hitherto unseen photographs reveal the unequal human cost of remotely controlled war machines. Butler Brothers, The Ethical Governor, 2010 Butler Brothers employ the codes and aesthetics of 3D animation to provide a satirical critique of Western capitalism and its imperialist imperatives. Nooshin Farhid, Conic Studies, 2010 Farhid sifts through information-overload to construct elusive collages of moving image, alluding to the structures of power. The Conic Studies series prefigures a major video trilogy that engages with the apparatus of war. (Conic Trilogy will be screened 6 September–16 October, 2011) Exhibition Talk: Clive Stafford Smith Talks, 21 July 6-9pm According to a recent broadsheet report, it is possible that nearly one third of the RAF could be made up of remotely controlled aircraft (Drones) within 20 years and the use of drones by the US airforce in the "War on Terror" has increased significantly on Obama's watch. What are the implications of conducting war using the ethics of Nintendo? International human rights lawyer and founder of Reprieve Clive Stafford Smith introduces the Drone effect. Evening Viewing: LAST Fridays at Beaconsfield, Friday 29 July 2011, 6.30 – 8.30pm As part of South London Festival of Art Sponsored by Becks Fusion Beaconsfield will be open late for a relaxed evening viewing of Gaming in Waziristan as part of the South London Art Map LAST Fridays.
