Januar, 18 - 21 Uhr Öffnungszeiten Di - Sa, 11 - 18 Uhr Die Werke des in Vilnius lebenden litauischen Künstlers Deimantas Narkevicius (geb. 1964) befassen sich mit Wahrnehmung von Geschichte und Erinnerung, reflektiert aus einer aktuellen und subjektiven Perspektive. In der Ausstellung präsentiert Narkevicius die Performance A Tang of Lomo Film von 2011 und den Film Ausgeträumt von 2010. Beide Werke sind erstmalig in Deutschland zu sehen. Das sowjetische Kino zeichnete sich in den Jahren zwischen 1950 und 1980 durch eine besonders hochentwickelte Tonqualität aus, mit der didaktische und regimetreue Filminhalte überliefert wurden. Das qualitativ beeindruckendste Soundsystem in der ehemaligen UDSSR wurde von der Firma Lomo Kinap in Leningrad produziert. Einige ihrer Technologien stammten von dem deutschen Vorkriegs-Unternehmen Klangfilm. Retrospektiv bleibt für Narkevicius der sanfte und angenehme Ton stärker in Erinnerung als das Bild. In A Tang of Lomo Film verwendet der Künstler das Soundsystem der Firma Lomo Kinap als Material und Ausgangspunkt. Ausstellungsbesucher können die Faszination des Sounds erfahren, indem Sie ein Lied aus einer digitalen Bibliothek auswählen. Die digitale Musikdatei wird analogisiert und durch das Lomo-Kinap-Soundsystem abgespielt. So wird die akustische Gegenwart durch die hochentwickelte Technologie der Vergangenheit ausgetauscht. Jedes Mal, wenn ein vom Besucher ausgesuchtes Lied gespielt wird, ertönt es in dem Sound, der während der politischen Unterdrückung in der Sowjetunion entwickelt wurde – eine faszinierende und zugleich verstörende Erfahrung. Während Narkevicius in A Tang of Lomo Film Geschichte als Sinneswahrnehmung mit der Öffentlichkeit teilt, konzentriert er sich im Film Ausgeträumt auf Erinnerung und verknüpft diese mit persönlichen Erfahrungen, dabei setzt er die zentralen Protagonisten in Bezug zu ihrem urbanen und ökonomischen Umfeld. Die allerersten kreativen Versuche eines Künstlers sind für gewöhnlich sehr positiv, noch unberührt von jeglicher Kritik, fast naiv. Mit Ausgeträumt erinnert sich Narkevicius an diesen Zustand der Naivität – zwischen Traum und Wirklichkeit, den er aus heutiger Sicht als besonders schön und fast vergessen empfindet. Er filmt eine Gruppe von Jungen aus Vilnius, die sich zu einer Indie-Band zusammengetan haben, während der Aufführung ihres ersten Songs. Dabei ist hervorzuheben, dass sich Rock- oder Popmusik als Ausdrucksform der Selbstdarstellung in Litauen bis heute kaum durchgesetzt hat und es bisher keinem litauischen Musiker gelungen ist, auf diesem Gebiet international bekannt zu werden. Als eine LUX- und Independent-Cinema-Kommission wurde Ausgeträumt auf 35-mm-Film gedreht und tourte kürzlich durch die Kinos in England. So ging der erste Song einer Gruppe junger Idealisten aus Litauen auf virtuelle Tour durch Großbritannien, ein Land mit einer sehr ausgeprägten Popmusikkultur. In this exhibition, Narkevicius presents the performance A Tang of Lomo Film, 2011 and the film Ausgeträumt, 2010. Both works are being shown in Germany for the first time. Between 1950 and 1980, Soviet Cinema was equipped with highly developed sound systems broadcasting didactic and regime abiding content. The finest and most qualitatively impressive sound system produced in the former USSR was made by the manufacturer Lomo Kinap in Leningrad. Part of their technology originated from the German pre-war company Klangfilm. In retrospect, for Narkevicius the soft and pleasant sound has remained stronger in his memory than the images. In A Tang of Lomo Film, the artist uses the Lomo Kinap sound system both as medium and starting point. Visitors to the exhibition experience this fascination with sound when choosing a song from the digital library. The digital music file is converted into an analogue and played through the Lomo Kinap sound system. This way, the acoustic present is replaced by the highly developed technology of the past. Every time a visitor’s chosen song is played, it is through the sound developed under political oppression during Soviet rule - a somewhat fascinating but also disturbing experience. While Narkevicius in A Tang of Lomo Film shares history as a sensory perception with the public, in the film Ausgeträumt he focuses on memory and links it with personal experience. As such, he places his central protagonists in relation to their urban and economical landscape. The first few creative steps of an artist are usually very positive, still untouched by any form of critique, almost naive. In Ausgeträumt Narkevicius recalls this naive state of mind – in between dreams and reality, which he from his current perspective considers very beautiful and almost forgotten. He films a group of young teenage boys from Vilnius who have formed an Indie-Band and are performing their first song. It is worth noting that Rock and Pop music as a form of self-expression has hardly been popularized in Lithuania and no Lithuanian musician has ever achieved international recognition in this type of music. As a LUX- and Independent Cinema-Commission, Ausgeträumt has been shot on 35-mm-film and has been recently touring around English cinemas. Hence, the first song of a young idealist group of Lithuanians went on a virtual tour through Great Britain, a country famous for its distinctive Pop music culture.
