(please scroll down for the English version) Maria Eichhorn Zimmerstrasse 88/89, 10117 Berlin February 8 � March 19, 2011 Gallery hours Tue � Sat, 11 am � 6 pm Die Galerie Barbara Weiss freut sich, die neunte Einzelausstellung von Maria Eichhorn anzuk�ndigen und das 20-j�hrige Jubil�um der Zusammenarbeit mit Maria Eichhorn zu feiern. Zugleich ist dies die letzte Ausstellung in den R�umlichkeiten in der Zimmerstra�e, bevor die Galerie neue R�ume in der Kohlfurter Stra�e 41-43 in Kreuzberg bezieht. Die Ausstellung mit dem Titel Zimmerstrasse 88/89, 10117 Berlin versammelt f�nf neue Werke und Werkgruppen von Maria Eichhorn und bezieht sich auf den Umstand, dass die Galerie den Standort in der Zimmerstra�e aufgibt. Die Fenster der Galerie wurden von au�en zur Strasse hin mit Seekieferplatten verkleidet, wie sie �blicherweise f�r Abrissh�user oder Sanierungsobjekte verwendet werden. Die Lichtinstallationen an den Decken in den abgedunkelten Ausstellungsr�umen wurden abmontiert. Die Adresse der Galerie Zimmerstrasse 88/89, 10117 Berlin ist Wei� auf Wei� auf die Wand aufgemalt. In der von Eichhorn entwickelten Technik des mehrschichtigen Aufmalens von wei�er Wandfarbe direkt auf die Wand wird mit jeder aufgetragenen Schicht der Text lesbarer. Diese Arbeit von Maria Eichhorn kann ihrer Natur gem�� mit jeder geografischen Adresse unz�hlige Male produziert werden und ist durch ihren jeweils spezifischen Text an den jeweils spezifischen Ort gebunden. Eine weitere Arbeit � eine Aufnahme aus Eichhorns Studie Figuren, die unterschiedliche Positionen und soziale Verh�ltnisse von Personen zueinander thematisiert � ist gro�formatig auf die Wand im Eingangsbereich der Galerie angebracht. Die Abbildung zeigt die Galeristin und die K�nstlerin, die in entgegen gesetzte Richtungen laufen (Fotos der Studie: Jens Ziehe). Ferner hat Maria Eichhorn f�r die Ausstellung ein neues Multiple entwickelt: ein gro�er Besen mit Holzstiel, Holzriegel und schwarzen Borsten. Das Multiple erscheint in unlimitierter Auflage. Die Ausstellung thematisiert die Beziehungen und Verh�ltnisse zwischen dem �ffentlichen Raum der Stra�e und dem privaten Raum der Galerie, sowie zwischen Kunsthandel und Kunstproduktion und inwieweit sie den sozialen Raum zwischen den AkteurInnen � Kunsth�ndlerInnen, K�nstlerInnen, SammlerInnen und �ffentlichkeit � bestimmen. Derzeit sind Arbeiten von Maria Eichhorn in den Ausstellungen Freedom of Speech im Kunstverein Hamburg (bis 27. M�rz 2011) und unExhibit in der Generali Foundation in Wien (bis 17. Juli 2011) zu sehen. Maria Eichhorn Zimmerstrasse 88/89, 10117 Berlin February 8 � March 19, 2011 Gallery hours Tue � Sat, 11 am � 6 pm Galerie Barbara Weiss is pleased to announce the ninth solo exhibition of works by Maria Eichhorn in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of our cooperation with the artist. The show is the last to take place in our space on Zimmerstra�e; the gallery will then move to a new home at Kohlfurter Stra�e 41�43, Berlin-Kreuzberg. The exhibition, entitled Zimmerstrasse 88/89, 10117 Berlin, assembles five new works and groups of works by Maria Eichhorn and addresses the fact that the gallery is vacating its home on Zimmerstra�e. The street-facing windows of the gallery have been boarded up with panels of maritime pine of the sort generally used in buildings slated for demolition or renovation. The light fixtures installed under the ceilings in the darkened exhibition rooms have been removed. The gallery�s address, Zimmerstrasse 88/89, 10117 Berlin, has been painted on the wall in white on white. The application of multiple layers of white wall paint directly to the wall, a technique developed by Eichhorn, allows the text to gradually emerge into legibility. Due to its particular nature, this work by Maria Eichhorn can be produced in countless copies at any geographical address, and each instance will be tied by its specific text to the specific site. Another work, a large print of a photograph from Eichhorn�s study Figuren that examines people�s different positions and the social relationships between them, has been affixed to the wall in the gallery�s entrance area. The picture shows the gallerist and the artist walking in opposite directions (the photographs in this study were taken by Jens Ziehe). Maria Eichhorn has also developed a new multiple for the exhibition: a large broom with a wooden stick, a wooden bar and black bristles. The multiple will be produced in an unlimited number of copies. The exhibition addresses connections and interrelations between the public space of the street and the private space of the gallery as well as between the art market and the production of art. To what extent do they shape the social space between the actors, between art dealers, artists, collectors, and the public? Works by Maria Eichhorn can currently be seen in the exhibitions Freedom of Speech at Kunstverein Hamburg (until March 27, 2011) and unExhibit at the Generali Foundation, Vienna (until July 17, 2011).
