“Devi” by Thanet Awsinsiri 21 August – 12 October 2014 Opening reception: Thursday 21 August, 7pm onwards 100 Tonson Gallery is pleased to present Devi | เทวี, the latest painting exhibition by Thanet Awsinsiri. This exciting new acrylic series reflects Thanet’s continued fascination with the female form – with complete disregard of limited societal definitions of beauty. “Devi”, Sanskrit for “Goddess”, is portrayed in each of his works. Devi | เทวี is Thanet’s latest expedition into the depth of the female form, comprising images of women’s bodies, appearing naked and floating without context, yet clothed in curiosity and judgment forming in viewers’ minds. This series of eight large, piquant-hued nude paintings prods us to question from our individual perspective all that revolves around the female body, such as ideal beauty, moral dilemma, pornography, or just sheer consumption.
