As my wife and I were traveling in our Volkswagen bus on a trip to California in 1968, I noticed the shadow of the bus on the road before me. It suggested a face with ears, ears created by the protruding mirrors. I called it an Oobie, and fanticized a place where Oobies lived. This idea became the basis for the five part Oobieland films, which, when completed, were quite well received at festivals (Ann Arbor, Hawaii, Monterey) and venues (Fillmuseum, Amsterdam; MoMA) in the US and abroad.
