Tomáš Libertíny is a multi-disciplinary artist who heavily draws on his training in both engineering and fine art in his practice. His current series of work combines the natural process of honeycomb manufacturing with a highly technical human engineering that opens up provocative new sculptural and design possibilities.


TOMAS LIBERTINY (b. 1979, Slovakia) studied engineering and design at the Technical University Košice in Slovakia. In 2001, he was awarded the George Soros’s Open Society Institute Scholarship to study at The University of Washington in Seattle, where he explored painting and sculpture. He then went on to continue his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava in painting and conceptual design. Upon receiving the Huygens Scholarship, he enrolled on the Masters program at the Design Academy Eindhoven where he received his MFA in 2006. His works have recently acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Cincinnati Art Museum and Mudac, Museum of Design and Contemporary Applied Arts in Lausanne. He is the founder of Studio Libertiny in Rotterdam where he focuses on exploring new design strategies in art.
