I am inspired by the physicality of objects and their surroundings. I use my memory of them to create compositions that are the result of some form of contemplated action. Many of my works contain imagery of stones, wedges, and wooden planks. Sometimes those materials are used within a drawing or sculpture to make buildings, fences, or parts of walls; other times they are used formally to tilt a basket or hold up a leaning handbag. |
My work combines formalism, narrative, man-made structures and nature. The arrangement of various objects and building materials are the aftermath of basic building techniques such as stacking, layering, and joining. Papier-mch is my primary sculpture material. Using the same material throughout, the sculptures refer more to themselves than to the actual material itself- much in the way that drawing does.
