BODYSIGHT is an audio-visual environment exploring London landmarks from the perspective of a dancer's body. The selected London sites include London Eye, Camden Market and Hyde Park. It challenges the assumption that the dancers body is an object to be looked at and offers an environment for the viewer to experience what the dancing body can see and hear in the moment of dance. Video and sound material was initially recorded with small digital videocameras which were attached by means of special accessories to various parts of a dancer's body in order to trace views and sounds of the surrounding environment. Five video loops with accompanying soundtracks were created from this sampled material and are presented in a circular installation which surrounds the viewer. (touring 2001-2005 including Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, UK and New Art Gallery Walsall, Walsall, UK) |
