For what seems like landscape painting, I have in fact recreated scenes from the background photography in the Argos catalogue, removing the outdoor and leisure commodities and liberating the gardens from their consumerist trappings. These imaginary worlds based on a scene from the catalogue become fetishised through the use of paint and through the new invented space with all its added extras. Happily devoid of artistry or passion, my paintings are small, the size you would find on the average living room wall, and complete the transition from the consumer object in the catalogue to becoming the consumer object as the painting. |
