Becks Green Box Project
From July 2011, Kate MccGwire’s digital installation Corvidae will be exhibited as part of The Beck’s Green Box Project; a pioneering arts sponsorship program and the first worldwide augmented reality gallery. At first glance the seemingly restful sculpture begins to seethe and undulate in the direction of the flow of the feathers, coiling into itself, breathing ever so gently. Coinciding with the Celebrate Brooklyn Festival, Corvidae will only appear at Prospect Park, New York, when you use the Beck’s Green Box App on your phone – free to download here.

| Winner of Heart of Glass Award
Kate's pigeon-feather work, 'Vex', has won her a solo show at 2009's Heart of Glass, which launched on 2 October 2008 as part of Concrete and Glass, a new music and art festival based in London's East End. Curated by Flora Fairbairn and Paul Hitchman in association with the Contemporary Art Society, artists were asked to submit work that responded to the eerie atmosphere of Shoreditch Town Hall's basement. The 33 participating artists were selected through a process of open submission by a panel that included artists Marc Quinn and Gavin Turk, art critic Rachel Campbell-Johnston, Paul Hobson (Director of the Contemporary Art Society), Irene Bradbury (Associate Director, White Cube) and Philippa Adams (Director, Saatchi Gallery). The award comes almost exactly a year after Kate's studio (and most of its contents) were destroyed by fire. Very little survived, with the exception of the pigeon feathers used to make her winning piece.
