| OCTOBER 2013 SHOP SHOW A Nordic touring exhibition on consumption, production and the fact that someone always pays the price. Helga Steppan is exhibiting photographic prints from the series See Through - All My Things in the exhibition Shop Show at Form/Design Center in Malmö, Sweden.
Shop Show is a Nordic touring exhibition on consumption, production and the fact that someone always pays the price. New sustainable lifestyles are needed, which does not deplete on the earth's resources. That does not contribute to climate change. That does not increase inequality in the world - where high wage countries in the West generates the most damage, while billions of people in emerging economies such as China, Brazil and Bangladesh both pay the bill and is working hard to live like us.
Ingrid Sommar and Susanne Helgeson's book Köp dig Fri! (Buy yourself free!) is the starting point for this exhibition, a book about design, survival and consumption, published by Arena 2012. There is also an exhibition catalogue, Shop Show (ISBN 978-91-637-4210-1) accompanying the exhibition, with texts written by Birgitta Ramdell, Ingrid Sommar and Susanne Helgeson. Q&A with all the artists and designers. And are including several of Steppan's colour images from the series See Through - All My Things. The exhibition is open 19th October 2013 - 12th January 2014. Tuesday - Saturday 11:00 - 17:00

Form/Design Center Lilla Torg 9 | Malmö | SWEDEN www.formdesigncenter.com MOTOWN Opening Ceremony of the commissioned work of art for the Town Hall in Motala, Sweden created by
Helga Steppan.
The artist invited all the people of the town to lend her personal objects that reminded them of water and the site of the municipality. The different objects show traces of the place, its people and history, where the object act as nodes for different personal stories. At the same time, Helga herself collected artifacts from the local museums. With all the given objects, Steppan created an installation, which forms and imaginary landscpae of Motala, the lake town of Ostergotland County. With a photograph she has immortalised the scene for the town hall.
Opening to be held in the Town Hall on Saturday 26th October 11:00-13:30 during the Culture Night with activities continuing throughout into the evening. All Welcome!

Steppan invites people to dedicate a book, at the same time she is writing her own and searching for lost dedications written by strangers. She builds together a collection of literary dedications where fiction meets reality. A space is created between the lines of words and images, the books and the participants where a personal storytelling is allowed to take place; a narration and meeting between the previous owners (the givers), the new owners and the viewers. dedication [ˌdɛdɪˈkeɪʃən] n 1. the act of dedicating or the state of being dedicated 2. an inscription or announcement prefixed to a book, piece of music, etc., dedicating it to a person or thing 3. complete and wholehearted devotion, esp to a career, ideal, etc. 4.
