These paintings are titled Masters of the Seas The Twilight (Reconstructed). They depict fashion victim Amazon warriors protecting their waters against foreign invaders, as well as portraying the fantastical environments where they live. My art is influenced by contemporary fashion, the gaudiness of Byzantine imagery and its emphasis on the transcendental. I create a fictional race of women, combining violence with feminine beauty and fashion models with mythological goddess figures. They exude a precarious combination of sexuality, social power and superficiality. These figurative paintings are contrasted with supernatural scenes of decorative foliage. They portray imaginary landscapes and suggest an open-ended narrative. Reflecting upon the connection between landscape and imagination, they depict an intermediate state that is not clearly defined. |
