His stylized fantasy world is inhabited by known types rather than individuals; often the figures’ faces are equipped only with a mouth to complete their aloof indistinction. Detiger, however, replaces fashion’s cool apathy and exclusivity with whimsy, buoying and transforming his critique into a vibrant, visual ride.

Detiger’s hallucinatory backgrounds and flush color palette create an amorphous visual setting for the subtle interactions of his figures, firmly setting his happy tone. This jocular environment simultaneously references the frenetic and chaotic nature of our media obsessed culture, which bombards us with empty imagery. In Detiger’s hands this portentous obsession is transformed to contentment just shy of complicity. We are aware of our vain foibles and yet not asked to give them the full weight of guilt but to put them in their rightful, playful place. Detiger’s paintings rather than scathing indictments are lyrical musings on the pop shallowness of advertising culture, allowing us to bask in the colorful vapidity of an idealized world of comfort yet dispensing with the naivete.
