Storytelling and dislocation are the main components of my work. I gather bits and pieces of stories and memories using playful everyday objects. I focus on the inherent struggle to contain the intangible – the elusive nature of memories. In my most recent narrative series, thousands of stickers on reflective mylar are used to create a whimsical world full of joy and wonder. The moment someone holds a sticker in their hand they smile. Even if they think it is worthless and throw it out the very next second they still smile. I wanted to share that moment of childhood innocence and joy through the colorful narratives. As the silly mundane objects are re-contextualized into fanciful stories and exuberant patterns, the silver mylar reflects (captures) the surroundings and the viewer inside the work creating a dense duality of reality and illusion – a reality that is part of fantasy and a fantasy that can never escape from reality.
