Her work comprises video, installation and painting and is generally concerned with the theoretical and social implications of painting’s status as an art signifier within society.

Recent solo exhibitions include ‘New is Old’ for the Center for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, Poland, ‘Context is Everything’ at Mullerdechiara Gallery in Berlin, Germany and ‘A Whitney for the Whitney at Philip Morris’ for the Whitney Museum at Philip Morris, New York. She has recently been included in group exhibitions at the Project, Los Angeles, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Sculpture Center, the Prague Biennial, PS1 Museum, the Queens Museum, Artists Space, The Secession, the Philadelpha Institute of Contemporary Art, the Seattle Art Museum and the Kwanju Biennial, among others.

Ellen Harvey is represented by Mullerdechiara Gallery in Berlin, Germany.

Upcoming projects include a mosaic for the Queens Plaza subway station, commissioned by MTA Arts for Transit, and a solo exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, funded by the Pew Charitable Trust’s Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative.
