In foreign films there is an assumption that the film communicates clearly what the viewer sees/hears and what the viewer experiences through reading subtitles. In fact, in foreign films there is a great potential for miscommunication. The gaps between spoken word, visual image, the written text (i.e. subtitle), even the speed of the film as it goes through the projector allows for a great number of interpretations that can change the experience of the viewer. My work has aspects of spacing via the medium of digital prints, revealing this complex relationship between seeing and experiencing.
