Painting is both a material and historical process. Fifteenth century Flemish painters are my current inspiration. The beauty of the figures and the carefully constructed worlds are shadowed by an unease created by the awkwardness of the poses and the incorrect anatomies. My stylistic kinship with these artists compels me to keep their works alive by updating and refreshing them. They allow me to conduct an ongoing dialogue with them.

By transporting my subjects through the centuries I conduct a celebration of humankind. Though man is conditioned by his immediate circumstances and surroundings, he is not a prisoner of time and place. His memory spans the ages so that he can transcend his age, thereby achieving a kind of immortality, the immortality of the human race.
