Abel Baker Gutierrez was born in California and earned his BA and MFA at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA. His works explore a world of post-teen angst, development of sexual identity, and representations of masculinity in adolescence. Taking inspiration from rock music's aesthetic trends to scout culture to old masters paintings, Gutierrez utilizes a diverse range of materials to create paintings and installations which reflect our obsession with youth culture and issues of “growing up”.
Gutierrez’s work has been included in numerous group exhibitions in California, including Keeper of Light, SandroniRey Gallery, Culver City; A Picnic in Eden, The Company, Los Angeles, as part of a collaborative project with artist Bettina Hubby; and Playing Dumb, Amy Adler’s Studio, Los Angeles.
Abel Baker Gutierrez lives and works in Los Angeles.
