These works attempt to invert the roles of the relationship between the audience and the object. The paintings and Drawings are free from the sole responsibility of depicting narrative, revealing only fractions of image thus, insisting the viewer fill in the blanks. This places the more active participation of this relationship on the audience. The works insist on a distance that leaves the recognition of the subject matter only as urban, only as night, and only ambiguous.
What initially seem to be blank or blocked out areas of the pictorial surface eventually reveal the possibility of presence, yet only the possibility. This body of artwork documents an ongoing process of revision and editing of ideas surrounding notions of perception, memory, and reference. From within these concepts have grown many specific areas of inquiry that cross the boundaries of art into the discourses in philosophy, language, cultural studies, history, and politics. The work serves as a catalyst for further critical contemplation, ultimately to resonate in questioning and re-questioning what it is that we think we know.
