What initially seem to be blank or blocked out areas of the pictorial surface eventually reveal the possibility of presence, yet only the possibility. This body of artwork documents an ongoing process of revision and editing of ideas surrounding notions of perception, memory, and reference. From within these concepts have grown many specific areas of inquiry that cross the boundaries of art into the discourses in philosophy, language, cultural studies, history, and politics. The work serves as a catalyst for further critical contemplation, ultimately to resonate in questioning and re-questioning what it is that we think we know.
