My work is composed of the simple representation of objects, and places drawn from my experience and observations. I use images that signify the intense psychological desire to maintain emotional stability through ownership. My recent paintings depict an array of suburban houses illustrating the primary component of the American Dream - home ownership. Each house purports equality and appears surprisingly similar to the others, yet minor details, and complexity, and size allude to economic strata.Development is slow. I re-work each canvas adjusting color, value, and shape, reducing the image down to its must basic form. Stripped of artifice and pretense, the image becomes increasingly flat and bold developing into a singular iconic composition. Each painting is the result of a rigorous search, focusing predominately upon the position of the Self in our physical environment, and the duality of materialism and spirituality.
