My work radiates a wry impatience with our product laden social conventions as well as the austere structures of late modernist practice; all the while acknowledging the central and contradictory importance of mass culture and its relationship to contemporary art. I think of my work as hybrids. By pairing odd combinations of materials together like golf balls and wire, I arrive at an object both familiar and strange, a thing that defies category. When building three dimensional installations, my decisions are based on spatial considerations as well as capitalizing on the contents at hand. For example in a giant web made out of cable, clothes and other daily items are used to fill in the gaps creating a stuffed effect. This stuffed or crammed effect is a metaphor for the glut of consumerism in our lives. In another example, a series of vanity faces are made out of plastic fingernails in a mosaic fashion parodying the superficial concept of beauty in our society.
