My art making affects the viewer through a series of impressions. I use objects that at first glance appear quotidian, but, upon closer inspection, slowly reveal themselves to be disquieting and irreversibly damaged. I achieve this shift through careful consideration of composition and process. My installations work to affect the viewers senses through the alteration of their physical environment, smell and sound. However, unlike in theatre the viewer is plainly aware of my attempt to fabricate a fictional scenario, of my effort to suspend reality. - My ideas guide all material decisions. Repeated use of key materials creates a primal visual vocabulary. This method codes my concepts and aides the viewers through familiarity and repetition.

A key material/devise I use is laborious sewing, an overt gesture to inject my work with a preciousness and worth that only hand-made objects contain. The manual labor, the physical touch, are essential to the initial allure and eventual understanding of the work.

In the past year I have focused my energies on developing a personal iconography. Always stemming from autobiographic origins, this impulse has fuelled the creation of a specific set of objects that are each embedded with particular narrative content. - To date my explorations have centered on injecting this iconography into photo based collage works. These preliminary collage works have been central to the growth, and my understanding, of the cast of signs and symbols that I have subconsciously gravitated towards. Serving as a type of incubation space for reconfiguring and recontextualizing these objects, the collage works help me to visualize moments that seem worthy to extend into sculptural installations. - I am curious about the potential inescapabilty of ones genetic past. Furthermore, since I was adopted, the issue of nurture over nature often plays a role in my considerations. Do we have the ability to not become our parents? How do they manifest themselves within us, and do we have the ability to totally turn away from the way we were raised? - My work continually seeks the answer to the most basic of questions, Who am I?
