Matthew Ritchie Upcoming Projects and Exhibitions 2009 - 2010
THE MORNING LINE
Commissioned by Thyssen Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Ritchie conceived an ever morphing anti-pavilion, film and sonic environment that was premiered at the Venice Architectural Biennale last summer.
This vast architectural, film and musical collaboration was created in collaboration with architects ArandaLasch and Arup AGU with commissioned music by Bryce Dessner & Evan Ziporyn, Lee Renaldo, Thom Willems, Jon 'Jonsi' Birgisson and others. It is currently on view at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contempor�neo, Seville, through June 30, 2009 and will be travelling the world in 2010. Look for it at other venues near you.
LIVE PERFORMANCE WORK
Hypermusic, Prologue: A Projective Opera in Seven Planes , Agora Festival, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, June 14-15 2009: A collaborative 'projective opera' with sets and a one hour animated film developed by Matthew Ritchie to illustrate a new dimensional space described in the libretto by the world renowned Harvard physicist Lisa Randall & music by composer Hector Parra.

The Long Count, Next Wave Festival, Brooklyn Academy of Music New York: October 28, 30-31, 2009: Based on intertwined American and Mayan creation myths, this is an incredible live performance collaboration with texts, sculptures and a one hour film by Matthew Ritchie, music by Aaron & Bryce Dessner, the legendary Kim & Kelly Deal and a 12 piece mirror orchestra.

GALLERY EXHIBITIONS
The Last Scattering: A new commission by Arup designed in collaboration with Daniel Bosia of Arup�s famed Advanced Geometry Unit. Building on The Morning Line, The Evening Line and The Midnight Line, its different elements are a response to Big Bang Theory. Phase Two, London through June 26, 2009.

In conjunction with the Long Count, Ritchie will exhibit portions of various projects at Andrea Rosen Gallery including a feature length animated film.
MUSEUM EXHIBITIONS
Free Station, Havana Bienal, 2009: In response to the federally mandated recent switch to digital television in the United States last February, Ritchie created a working pirate television station for Havana in collaboration with James Case Leal that was on view in March and April in the Havana Bienal. This took advantage of an historical moment by providing for free in a non-capitalist country a service that is now completely privatized in the United States.
The Family Farm, a room sized installation from 2001, will be shown as part of �The Kaleidoscopic Eye,� Mori Art Museum, April 4 � July 5, 2009. This exhibition is a show of works from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary collection.
Stacked, an installation from 1998-2000, will be shown as part of �Between Art and Life,� a permanent collection exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, on view May 10, 2009 � January 3, 2010.
The Holstein Manifesto, 2008, a video, sound and sculpture installation work, will be on view as part of �Automatic Cities: The Architectural Imaginary in Contemporary Art� at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, from September 26, 2009 to January 31, 2010.
The Weight of the Sky ,a vast powdercoated aluminum, stainless steel, gypsum, and vinyl wall installation will be included in an exhibition at the prestigious Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden later this year as part of an exhibition of works from the Hoffman Collection, Berlin, together with the painting A Glorious Martyrdom Awaits Us All at the Hands of Our Tender and Merciful God. Entitled �To the Milky Way by Bicycle,� the show will be on view from June 20 � September 20, 2009.
