Book sample page - Bahnhofstrasse 33 - photographic Art Book
excerpt from Introduction
The portrait in the photographic image sustains a uniform expression, which is confrontational and alien at the same time. The photographic composition of the rooms in Bahnhofstrasse 33 is a statement of memory and melancholy, it reflects a potential apart from its representational and presupposed utilitarian nature.
The book is also based on the retrospective exhibition in the house of 2009, entitled: carrying my bones to St. Petersburg". The exhibition presented work from the years between 1980 and 2009 and each room offered a different genre, media and concept. The curatorial moment revisited the meaning of recorded time versus archival work. This culminated in the house and its rooms and in the images themselves, which began to shape anew in the moment of entering the house. The physical experience of the different rooms in the house resulted from a specific combination of place and work.
The place in the house of number 33 was governed by the artwork but never disconnected from the original setting of the rooms. Themes were absent and conventional signs could quickly withdraw from the signs in the work of drawings, paintings, photography, sculpture, installation and performance.
