When he was invited to take part in the inaugural exhibition of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Alain Declercq asked one of the police officers involved in the shooting of Jacques Mesrine to use a 357 magnum to write Instinct de mort in bullet holes on a wooden hoarding. Instinct de mort is the title of Jacques Mesrines autobiography. The police officer came to the Palais de Tokyo to carry out this act despite the disapproval of his superiors.

Mike is a film concerning the iconography of international subversion and repressive societies. It follows the footsteps of a Middle Eastern secret service operative after the terrorist events of 2001. The film was considered so ambiguous (fiction or documentary?) that Duclecq was raided by the Anti-terrorist squad. He underwent strict interrogation and his papers and computer were confiscated and examined thoroughly. His papers and work were photographed and listed by the secret services.
