The work of XOOOX is inspired by clothing advertisements and designer brands, illustrating contemporary standards of beauty. Most famous for his stencils and installations, his work is however meant as a critique of contemporary consumer society. The shooting star of the Berlin art scene depicts his subjects with a notion of sensuality and dreamy melancholy. The women in his work are not presented as an object of desire but refer to the monotone, consumption-driven hype of the fashion industry. XOOOOX uses ephemeral material such as decaying fabric, found wood, and rusty metal in order to deconstruct the supposed elegancy and extravagancy of the fashion culture. Working in the streets of Berlin the artist explores themes of vulnerability and transience that dominate our society.
