Perception is the conceptual undercurrent of all the work I do. We are so saturated with information and constructions of the world it is hard to sort through it. Being in a culture where this is the daily reality we also construct ourselves over and over while radiating a million signifiers to those around us. These delineate who we are, where we come from and where we stand in the world. This can reveal and conceal complex information in regard to many aspects of personal histories, social structures, and political viewpoints. These signifiers shift over time and place and the perceptions of people and politics are always in motion.I am so attracted to the illusions created by simple materials. The bodies of work I create are often done with a variety of mediums from drawing, animation, shadow, installation and projections. My studio practice is an endless exploration of low-tech illusion. The work is image based and often narrative in form. In some cases it can explore a single idea but one that is universal and acts as a metaphor to our world.
